South Jordan Chalk Art Festival

Here are some photos of my entry in the South Jordan Chalk Art Festival. My team consisted of a friend and I, but we also had quite a lot of help from her husband. It went from 9 A.M. to about 8 P.M. Ours was on a 5' x 5' square of cement. It was lots of fun and a lot of hard work.

Below are a few different views of the finished project. We placed second in the Adult Region competition.

Basil Rathbone

Happy Wednesday everyone!
So I drew this not too long ago. Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes.
Drawn in pencil on about a 5" x 9" piece of paper.

The Owl

This was also for Jessica. It was a thank you gift from my parents... Because they can't really thank themselves? I don't know, but I did it. Owls are awesome.
Also watercolors and pencil on a 9" x 12" art block paper.

Summer Swift

Here's another piece I did for someone else! This is for my uncle's girlfriend, Jessica.
She is one of the sweetest people that I've ever met and she's amazing at taking photos. She loves birds and seems to really like my artwork, so I painted her this.
Done in watercolors on a 9" x 12" art block paper.

Floating Past The Algae

This was done for my cousin quite some time ago. I thought I might just put up some stuff that I've done for other people before, just because they're usually my best pieces.
This is done in watercolors on a 9" x 12" art block paper.

Cool For Cats

Hello, everyone!
It's been a while now, I think. I apologize for that. This is actually quite an old piece. I simply did it in pencil and then used colored pencil to outline? I actually draw these kinds of cats all of the time. This is particularly inspired by an old song called "Cool For Cats"
9" x 12" paper, of course.

Artemis

Another drawing in marker.
Artemis, the Goddess of the Moon from Greek Mythology.
9" x 12" paper.

Harlequinn

Woohoo for Fridays!
So... This is a drawing inspired by clowns, obviously. My first time bothering with Crayola markers. I'd say not too bad of a thing to use for drawing...
9" x 12" paper.

For What's Just

Happy Thursday and good afternoon. It's almost Friday!
So, this was a sort of practice for another larger painting I will put up later. It's based off of one of Banksy's New Orleans works. I really wanted to paint something red and black that day.
I painted it in acrylics and, of course, found myself splattering it with them as well.
9" x 12" paper.

Swimming in the Colors

Another one of my first acrylic paintings. One thing you should know about me, is that I absolutely love to splatter and make a mess when I'm painting something. I just get so excited when all of the colors start to come together or something. It's weird. The fish was finger-painted and the rest was pretty much just splattered.
Done in acrylics.
9" x 12" paper.

Afternoon

This is one of my first acrylic paintings. I was more just experimenting with how the colors worked and how they mixed together. I was lacking inspiration, so I just went for what I felt like.
Done in acrylic paint with water.
9" x 12" paper.

Seascape

It's a Tuesday night. How... Fantastic!
So this is definitely not one of my favorites by me. The photo of it doesn't do it much more justice.
I am a bit of an insomniac and on the tendencies that I do get sleep, I have very vivid and usually disturbing dreams. Sometimes the dreams fuel my artwork. If you're wondering what this has anything to do with this painting, well, I painted this in the course of two nights when I couldn't sleep.
Fish and marine life--and, well, water, in general--have always been an interest of mine. We have two salt water tanks in our house, so I've had a great opportunity to learn about these types of fish and other life forms. This completely isn't as pretty and amazing as the coral and fish get, but hey.
Went a little long there... Whoops.
Anyway, this was painted in acrylics and oils.
9" x 12" canvas board.

We're All Living in A Glass

Ah man! Hello!
I've been working on this one all day today. I was looking at a picture on this blog: http://igorandandre.blogspot.com/2011/07/living-in-glass-of-water-inspiration.html
Their inspiration Fridays are amazing.
This was first drawn in pencil, then colored with different shades of blue.
9" x 12" paper lengthwise.

Original on sale for $40.

Mermaid

This was for a little friendly competition, if you'd like to call it that. It's one of my first mermaids. They're some of my more popular work. I really love both eerie and beautiful styles of depictions of mermaids, so I tried hard to combine the two.
This was sketched out in pencil, then colored in watercolor pencils and painted over in watercolor paints.
9" x 12" watercolor paper.
Original is on sale for $40.

The Arab

Happy Monday guys.
The paint in this was an accident. I painted something on the first page and it bled through. Later, I found it and I didn't want to waste paper so I sketched this horse over it. It turned out really nice I think. I used to draw horses all the time, as I was a little obsessed when I was younger... So it was interesting to try again.
The horse is drawn in pencil, roughly.
9" x 12" paper.

Original is on sale for $20.
