I loved working on this project so much. I had the honor of working on this symbolic piece for Adam. He's an incredible photographer and a super nice guy. If you'd like to check out his work--which I highly recommend--you can find it on his facebook page, here and on his website, here.
This was done in acrylics, paint pens, and pens on a wrapped canvas.
I will be working on making prints available for many pieces that have been sold, but are still wanted. I will post a link to the site that I will be using soon! If you would like your own custom piece of art from me, I would be more than happy to work on something for you so please e-mail me or message me. Commissions are some of my favorite things to do, especially when it's such a meaningful piece like this one!
My mom asked me for something abstract for her house that she's been trying to make look nice. We found some resin at Hobby Lobby and I'd never used that media before. This was my first time using it and it was really fun. I've done abstract before, but never so much as in this piece. It was like a break within a break for me. Kind of mindless and nice. It was nice to not really have to think about what was doing and really let it all flow.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-57816757971410717522015-02-20T13:28:00.001-07:002015-02-20T13:28:40.070-07:00Bigger Than Me

I absolutely love drawing and coloring clouds. If I could just paint and draw clouds all day I would. Mountains are fun too. I feel like I need to work on drawing more dimensional landscapes though. This was a fun one. I used colored pencils, inks and markers. Markers and white pencil are definitely my favorite blending tools.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-36264436908011082022015-02-09T22:23:00.001-07:002015-02-09T22:23:49.649-07:00Animated Sketches

So, I have been working on giving actual motion to my drawings. It's really fun, even if I'm not very good at it. I'd like to, one day, this year, make a full animated scene. I really would like to work on this part of my art and it will probably take me ages to actually be decent at it, but I'm excited about the process! It's so cool to see a drawing or character you made come to life, so to speak, even for less than a second.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-26283137569684288372015-01-21T00:01:00.000-07:002015-01-21T00:01:15.688-07:00Cool Morning

I know, I know, I'm never posting things at all lately. Sorry about that. I have been kind of busy with work, but I really will be trying to put forth an extra effort to post more often.
This is pretty old honestly. I really love drawing smoke or steam just because it's so fun and free to color and sketch. A lot of people ask me why so many people I draw are smoking and honestly, it's the smoke. I love drawing it. I, myself, don't smoke nor do I plan to really. I just like drawing it. This is just something a lot of people ask me about and I never really answer, so now you have an answer. I also think it's a bit dumb to only draw a handful of different types of characters with only traits that you like. I like complex characters with both flaws and strengths that are realistic and are found in daily life in people that you may come in contact with. There you have it.
This was with colored pencils, markers and pens.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-22973964987944663682014-11-22T21:13:00.002-07:002014-11-22T21:13:35.634-07:00Clouds

This started with a sort of minimalist sketch. Like I said before, I've been trying a lot of different styles and adding more detail and emotion to each full-length illustration. This was a fun picture because I really wanted to get the colors as close to what was in my head as was possible.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-39909655370807464762014-10-12T20:04:00.001-07:002014-10-12T20:04:17.604-07:00Cowboy

This was a really quickly put together thing, but I'm pretty proud of it. I had left over paints on my palette that I used for this. They may not go together very well, but I loved them too much to allow them to go to waste. I also have been trying to create more full-length drawings and illustrations, so including people in them that add to the story of the drawing, is my goal.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-30989435556697223682014-10-05T21:08:00.001-07:002014-10-05T21:08:12.122-07:00Orange Flowers

Here's a super old painting I did last winter when I was feeling a little angsty. I just pulled out my paper, squirted paints straight from the tube on to it and went at it with my brush and hands. That was just the background. I later added the flowers on it and added some texture with colored pencils and markers.
I used to do digital art a lot, but I think I just sort of gave up on it a while ago. That's kind of stupid, though, so I decided to just start practicing with it again. I still need a lot of work, but I think I've already improved a ton. I never understood using layers in coloring, but I found that I started using that idea just in my traditional art and it has gained so much depth comparing to the way I used to color things. It made it a lot easier to transfer my style through digital art too. So here are some things I've done.
The top one (The Joker) is kind of super experimental and I don't know how happy I am with it, but it was fun.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-81871872184497837822014-09-23T20:38:00.000-07:002014-09-23T20:38:06.506-07:00M.C. This was just a little project we did in Painting last year. The idea was to draw something with no negative space. I, at first tried to tie everything together, but then I just kind of threw stuff together. It was super fun. I drew this all with different markers and then went over it with pencil.
It's on a 9" x 12" paper.
These are the sketches for the last chalk art festival. I like to mess around with the themes that they give, but every time that I've participated in these things, no one seems to pay much attention to the theme. The bottom two are one's that we didn't use because we entered the contest that benefited Foster Care. The theme followed for the last two was "Best in the West" and the top one is the one benefiting Foster Care. I will update this with the quote we used after I find it.
Here's the finished product: http://zindigonothings.blogspot.com/2014/07/gateway-chalk-art-festival-2014.html

This one started as a sketch that I wasn't actually thinking of finishing, but I did. I wanted--and still do want--to get a lot better at creating different skin colors with depth and variation. No one is the same when I look at people in reality and I want to show that through my artwork. Honestly, I stick to my default face/expressions a lot when I draw. I really want to get away from that.
Anyway, this person is sleeping just because people look so calm to me when their eyes are closed or they're looking down and I love that, but it's really hard for me to capture. I also love red hair a lot.
I did this in markers and colored pencils.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-6866247889952760722014-09-02T16:56:00.000-07:002014-09-02T16:56:12.831-07:00Cafe

I've been really practicing with digital media lately. I took a very long break from it and I wasn't very good at it then. I think I'm a lot better now, but there's still a lot of work to be done. The first image is my sketch that I did traditionally.
I think about things and people that I know and combine those thoughts with fictitious more-interesting stories and it turns into some sort of character. I don't know what's going on here. I guess I was feeling reflective. I also tried using more vivid colors than usual.
This is just a sketch I did while I was trying to teach my little sisters some ways to color a while ago.
I drew this on Valentine's Day. I was listening to a Mutemath song--quote's in the drawing--and I just thought I should draw something sort of "Valentines-y". I'm definitely the least romantic person I know. Maybe I wasn't always this way, but this is how I am now. Love and other people confuse me and I guess this is what this drawing represents?
I just was drawing an eye and partial face when it turned into this. I like the thought that we're made of star stuff. It's just a poetic thing to me I guess. Maybe that's why this is what it is. A family friend now has this in her possession.
I used colored pencils, pen and marker to color this.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-81935848792048186002014-07-26T17:37:00.000-07:002014-07-26T17:37:00.910-07:00Wishful Thinking

An older drawing. I was just doodling in classes and then it eventually turned into this. I have really been trying to push myself to draw more houses and more detailed everyday things for the past year or so. I am pretty proud of the color in this as far as the girl goes, but this took me a really long time to actually finish completely and I don't know if that really shows through the whole thing? It was fun, though.
These are the things I drew for my friend, Anna's new album. She asked me to draw them and I was super excited to get started. I didn't have any music to go off of, so I just thought of things that Anna had talked about in the past and thought about things that seemed to represent those ideas. It was a lot of fun for me and I am pretty pleased with the work that I came up with. She has the originals now and her album is fantastic. If you want to give the songs a listen and maybe download them, you can find them all on her site: http://myworkalbum.blogspot.com/
Her link is also on my sidebar too. I feel pretty awesome that I was asked to be a part of this great music!Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-17390311382062059112014-07-04T17:39:00.000-07:002014-07-04T17:39:55.441-07:00Gateway Chalk Art Festival 2014

This is what Annabelle and I conjured up for the Gateway Chalk Art Festival this year. I wish I had gotten better pictures, but all I had was my phone. I worked mostly on the two squares on the right hand side and Annabelle worked on the two to the left but we ended up helping each other out at the end with the shoe panels.
Honestly, I feel like I could have worked harder on it, but this year's festival was weird to me and I kind of just gave up near the end, I guess. I am proud of how it turned out though. The quote that we formed the idea from is pictured at the bottom: "I'm afraid of what happens to children if no one took the risk to love them." --Liz (Utah Foster Parent)
I like to draw things that have a sort of hidden and personal message that you just have to think about a little. This one is just kind of like "picture a world without parents", but I wanted to keep the drawing itself light.
The Gateway Chalk Art Festival is an annual event and it's super fun if you're into chalk art. It benefits Foster Care too, so check it out for next year!
These are a bunch of different things I drew a while back when I had a story in my head.
I used to have these really awful nightmares that sort of followed a story line and were really bizarre. Every time I tell anyone about them, they find them really interesting--if not a bit terrifying--and many have told me to write about them. I started a lot of different things based on them and the last idea was to do a graphic novel, as I found that I am kind of bad at writing out such complex ideas. So these are sketches and things for that thing. Who knows, maybe I'll go back to it. It's kind of a dark story, though.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-10945931427376437642014-06-11T13:35:00.001-07:002014-06-11T13:35:26.839-07:00Midas

Personally, I love this painting. I think that I like it because of the idea that I had behind it, to be honest.
As I've mentioned in previous posts, I've always kind of been really into myths and legends. Midas was the king who wished that all he touched would turn to gold and I always sort of had an interest in that story. The golden touch could seem, at first, kind of empowering because doesn't the world run on money and wealth? In the end it leads him to nothing, though. It owns him and he no longer owns it. I tried to portray that in this painting.
I used acrylic paints and Prismacolor markers for detailing and sharpening my lines.Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03166861681128080864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182723208286903838.post-83321310710433005982014-06-08T14:55:00.000-07:002014-06-08T14:55:00.718-07:00Golden Chandelier

I did this one last summer-ish for a good friend of mine.
This really helped me grow as an artist too, I think, even if it is pretty simplistic. There was a lot that went into it. I guess it would qualify as a painting, but really, I did a lot of the coloring and solid work with colored pencils and markers. I just really liked the look it gave everything, I remember. I spent a lot of time on this thing, because I remember it being the first big painting on paper I ever did and had some idea of what I wanted the end product to be. A lot of the artists that I talk to and associate with, sit down and draw something that they already have planned to the detail in their heads, but honestly, I really don't draw that way most of the time. If I draw that way, it's usually for somebody else. I don't mind doing it though! It's actually kind of a challenge and I like that.
I usually just throw on some colors--in the most literal sense possible--and then just sort of let things take shape. If an image pops up in my mind, sure, I will put that thing down, if I like what it has to offer, but I usually only have a rough idea of what I'm drawing until near the very end. Usually it ends up being surprisingly meaningful to me that way anyway.
I love all of the different techniques that people use to express their thoughts through art. It's pretty amazing if you think about it. Transferring dreamlike images from a person's mind onto paper, canvas and even cement so that every person outside can try to understand your view on things is fascinating to me. Anyway, hope you are having a nice Sunday. Try scribbling something cool today!
